Christmas Hours

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

It's that time of year again. Next Friday, Nov. 7th is the start of the Fall Cottage Life Show at the International Centre on Airport Road. As always, we are looking forward to seeing both our regular customers and meeting new ones. Both Bill and I will be in the booth all three days. We will be introducing the stunning wall plaques by Dawn Detarando and Brian McArthur to the Cottage Life crowd. (You can go to July 28/08 to check out a couple of tiles). We are bringing the work of Barb Howe, Wayne Cardinalli, Lou Hanson, Dotti Potts, Eric Ciup, canoes by Daniel Maxwell (our top seller at the last two shows) plus a selection of milk bag pitchers and berry bowls. We will also have pottery and wooden marquetry Christmas decorations and, as always, the beautiful photographic cards by Geof Burbidge that represent cottage country so well.
Come by and say "Hi". Our booth number is TP11. The show hours are:

Friday, Nov. 7th......12 noon till 9pm
Saturday, Nov. 8th......10am till 6pm
Sunday, Nov. 9th........10am till 5pm

Summer's over

We've come to the end of summer and the Labour Day weekend is here. We have a new potter to add to our list...Glen Gagnier and his partner Ali Ross, who's work we carried many years ago. I am extremely excited about their pottery. The glazes are spectacular and it is beautifully thrown. Glen is well known for producing some of the most exquisite pieces of functional pottery in Canada. Ardith One is very proud to be carrying their work.

Voyager Art Tiles

We have received a new shipment of tiles from Brian McArthur and Dawn Detarando. Our focus is on the cottage theme as you can see by the Muskoka chair below. They are beautifully done and there is a definite "group of seven" feel to many of the images, like above. They make an ideal gift when visiting a cottage this summer.

Village Day Success

Our pottery sale and Village Day were both a great success. The weather held out for us with just a few sprinkles of rain. Dedicated customers came early to keep us company while we set up all the great sale items outside on the sidewalk. Both regular customers and people who came out to enjoy all the street festival activities took advantage of our great sale. At 50% to 75% off, it's not to missed. We appreciate all who came and look forward to next year. Congratulations to Rick O'Connor for all his work on Village Day, an annual event sponsored by the Yonge Lawrence Village Business Improvement Area.

Another Successful Show

The Spring Cottage Life Show was, again, a great success. Saturday was the most crowded and extremely busy for us in the booth. The canoe dip sets and pates were the hit of the show. They are the perfect cottage purchase and many were buying just for themselves. We sold out both Friday and Saturday. Looking forward to the fall show in November. Many thanks to Judy for her help over the years. I will miss her at future shows. She was wonderful to have in the booth with me through those long show hours.

Spring Cottage Life Show

This year Ardith One will have booth # TP 22 in the Trading Post. We are looking forward to seeing a lot of customers. We will have the most popular item at the fall show, the canoe pates by Daniel Maxwell, at the booth again. We sold out in the fall so don't be disappointed and leave it to the end of the show. We will have boxes there if you are giving the "canoe" as a gift. The show hours are Friday, 12 noon till 9, Saturday, 10 till 6 and Sunday, 10 till 5. Come by and say "Hello". It's always nice to see our customers at the show.

New Potter

We have just received our first shipment of pottery by Maggie Murdoch. Maggie was mainly known for her mosiac work but is now producing pieces that don't represent any particular flora or fauna but certainly have that botanical feel to them. She is using many combinations of production (wheel-thrown, slab, coil and carving), glazes (cool blue/grey, acid green and coral) and methods of application(dipping, pouring, spraying and brush) to produce this unique work. We are very excited to have her pottery in our store. It's definitely different from anything else we have.

Barb Howe X-Large Serving Bowl

Valentine's Day Gifts

Mugs by Melissa Schooley

Pottery by Melissa Schooley arrived in the store yesterday. There is now a good selection of her mugs, teapots, cream and sugars if you're thinking of something different for Valentine's Day. We also got an order in by Barb Howe featuring her new rich dark brown glaze. We had it at Christmas for the first time and our customers really liked it. It will have to replace her copper red glaze because she could no longer depend on it.

The New Year

Well the new year is here...we've put away all the Christmas decorations. We are looking forward to a great 2008. We have the Cottage Life Show at the end of March and our sale on Village Day in June. We will be attending the By Hand trade show at the end of January and always look forward to meeting new artisans. Although trade shows are not our main source of pottery, we can always see at least one new craftsman from out of province whose work we might not have the opportunity to view otherwise.
