Shop the Neighbourhood program generates buzz for local businesses

By: , Business reporter, Published on Mon Nov 03 2014

With Yellow Pages' Shop the Neighbourhood initiative going national this year we examine how the focus on neighbourhood shopping is helping the company grow.

Bev Don, owner of Ardith One Canadian Pottery and Crafts, which will be participating in Yellow Pages Shop the Neighbourhood progam again this year, on Nov. 29.

Bev Don and her husband didn’t have to consider whether to repeat their gift shop’s participation in the Yellow Pages Group’s Shop the Neighbourhood program.
“I’m pretty sure we more than doubled our sales for a regular Saturday,” said the owner of Yonge-Lawrence area’s Ardith One Canadian Pottery and Crafts, of last fall’s experience. “We were pretty much run off our feet the whole day.”
Taking place Nov. 29, between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the initiative, which rolled out in the GTA last year, to encourage consumers to buy locally, has now expanded to Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Montréal.
At no cost to them, participating businesses and the exclusive savings and deals they’re offering to counter cross border shopping and internet buys, are promoted and showcased on the event’s website.
“It’s free, you couldn’t ask for better value than that,” said Don.

Known for his exquisite glazing and throwing, his work must be handled to appreciate the workmanship. All his work is handcrafted porcelain fired in a wood-fire kiln.
